Seriously, this is some fucked up shit – old people in nursing homes who would rather not get treatment than let a black nurse touch them. What’s worse, IMO though, is the state pandering to that attitude. I though that the anti-discrimination legislation that prevented shops from not serving blacks would also come into play in these cases. Still, I guess we shouldn’t be too fussed if a bunch of old racists would rather die rather than get black germs 😉
Sounds almost like a beat up about how good, normal, law-abiding ‘Murrkins don’t want their health care needs dictated to them by any black man.
And that apologist in the article saying that when people get old and senile they revert to earlier behaviours – what’s he implying? They let the acknowlegedly mentally decrepit and incompetent sign legally-binding documents? Ridiculous.
Watching excerpts from Rachel Maddow’s show on the ‘Scare White Folks’ strategy being pursued by the conservatives over the last while (Acorn, Van Jones, Shirley Sherrod, and now the not-mosque at not-GroundZero) I just boggle at the amount of implicit fear of the other in American society. The fun part is laughing at the mental gymnastics required by Faux News to hold simultaneously contradictory opinions at the same time (like the latest one that the financial backer of the “mosque” is an evil muslim terrorist type when it’s the same Saudi prince who is a part owner of Fox News itself).
