Actually, not quite and there’ll only be one on the bike, but I sent out a sponsorship reminder the other day saying that I’d ride anywhere to collect sponsorship money for the ‘Gong Ride. The boss took me up on that, so now I’m riding out to Hazelbrook on the 24th, staying overnight and riding back the next day. Hopefully it’ll be cooler than the last time I rode out to the mountains (in January).

Damn – I was going to say, ‘have I got a pickup location for you!’ ;^)
It’d have to be a lot of sponsorship for me to travel that far 🙂
How long a ride is it to Hazelbrook?
If you click on the link for Hazelbrook, you’ll go to Google Maps, with a pin at Hazelbrook. Clicking on that pin will give you a set of options such as “directions” (just for next time, so you could check yourself)
Getting directions from there to marrickville (specifically, my address), shows a path down the freeway, which is basically the route I rook back in January; it’s close enough to 82km.
If you want to know the expected duration, I measure my rides by expecting to take about 1 hour for each 15km on average. Uphills can take more, downhill will be faster, obviously. About 5 hours would be close, but it may take more given the amount of uphill. On the way back, it only took me 4:30 hours from Katoomba which is another hour west. That means I should only take about 3:30 to be back to the city and be in plenty of time for your phone call, if I leave early enough 🙂
Looking at other rides on Garmin Connect, I see that the length of the route from Coffs to Grafton is 82.4km and it took 5:46 in December 2008. Mind you the rides from Casino to the valley are only a bit longer and an hour more.
I went to the map, tried to follow the hwy, but it stopped dead at some point. I really should get a hands on lesson in google maps sometime.
