It seems wrong that a town just 20km or so from one of the major population centres of the far north coast is without mobile reception, but there you have it. I’m typing this up for transmission tomorrow.
Today’s ride was hot and slow. Naughton’s Gap was an early indication of the overall tenor of the day;Â I crawled up it but at least I was climbing the shallower ascent. The Cawongla road was decent but I can see why the council wants to do roadworks, what with all the potholes.
I stopped for a fizzy drink and a packet of chips at the Rock Valley post office (a small demountable near the community hall)Â at about 9 as it started to warm up. By the time I reached Larnook, it was quite hot and I had to walk up the top of the steep climb past the public school.
At Cawongla I asked the ladies what they thought the chance of rain was, since I’d been hearing rumblings on and off for a while. I was told 50/50 and they were right as it rained for about half the afternoon.
Thankfully it started just before the Stony Chute turnoff and continued all along the period I was coming over the mountain, although that didn’t stop me having to walk up most of the climbs. At least I could do so in more comfort than last time.
I finally arrived in Uki at about 3:30 and have just been chilling out for a few hours. It’s the final non-dash tomorrow. Yay!
