Today was a good day. I left Casino at about 6:20 and the skies were overcast with temperatures in the low 20s all the way to Whiporie at about 9:45.
After a milkshake and some of a burger I pushed on, making good time. The temperature increased but only to the high 20s. Skies were still overcast with intimations of rain later to the south.
At about 27km to go, I was stopped for a break and I noticed another cyclist coming up behind me. He is the second other rider I’ve seen on the road and he was hoping to ride straight through to Coffs Harbour – that’s hard-core. He headed off and I didn’t see him again.
I stopped at Junction Hill for a drink and, as I was leaving, I realised that my front tyre was flat. It turns out it was another burst seam in a perished tube. After replacing it I pushed on to arrive at the motel at about 2:45. My average speed was 15.4, which is better than I’ve done on that stretch for a couple of years.
The rain was still threatening with rolling thunder all around but didn’t actually hit until about 5pm. Then it poured. It’d be nice if it continues tomorrow.
