Danya and I rode the ‘Gong yesterday. We got off to a shaky start, as I got a call first thing to say that he had a flat tire (a patch failed overnight) so we actually left Sydney Park not long before 8am. The good thing about leaving slightly later was that we missed the crowds so that we didn’t suffer the usual stop/start traffic through to Brighton-le-Sands.
The temperature was a nice 23 degrees or thereabouts for most of the day, although it rose a bit in the early afternoon to high 20s. Due to a lack of communication, Danya waited for me at Waterfall for about 20 minutes while I didn’t see him there and went straight on down the hill to lunch. I hung around there until he showed up and we set off together again although he soon dropped me on the hill.
We eventually reached Wollongong sometime after 1pm with just over 4 hours of ride time, which is quite good for me. After some food, we took the train back to Sydney and ended getting back before 3:30pm; I was a bit wiped, but not too badly. Overall it was a very good day, and the new bike handles quite well for that distance. That givens me confidence for my Christmas cycling holiday.
