RTA Big Ride 2003 diary

Day 9: Harden -> Cootamundra (43KM)
Previous  Home  Next

After an exhortation to get up early, I set my alarm for 5am and managed to get away exactly at 7am. I only had a few drinks at the final night party last night and got to bed by 10:30. It was a nice cool ride and an hour and a half without flies. At breakfast there were a lot of us searching through the spreads looking for honey without any success. As far as I can see the baskets contain about %90 peanut butter and the rest is marmalade and vegemite.

The road gradually rose until morning tea at the 25 kilometer mark. Then there were big swooping downhills and a couple of minor climbs before we hit the outskirts of Cootamundra.

We were marshalled at the stockyards until all cyclists had made it (I had about 1:30 wait). Then we rode en-mass into town where there were cheering crowds (mainly for the locals, I think). We rode through the main street and around to Albert Park where, without further ado, we were packing bikes onto trucks and us with luggage onto buses. I managed to have a bit of a wander through the craft stalls etc. that had gathered, but it would have been nice to have more time to see the town itself.
