Day 9: Mt. Penang Parklands -> Berowra (44KM)
Previous  Home  Next

I woke up feeling great, and managed to get packed and ready by 7am. Maybe the extra hour's sleep for the daylight-savings change-over had something to do with it. As last year the honey had basically run out, but the breakfast included waffles with maple syrup so I used that on my porridge. A few up us lined up at about quarter past waiting for the official send-off at 7:30. There seemed to be no real activity from police or volunteers and we started getting impatient and so headed of about 10 minutes early - officially unsupported. A couple of km down the road a VRA buy said that the police were quite pissed off since an earlier rider had actually got to Mooney Mooney already.

The ride was really good. The first climb, out of Mooney Mooney creek was still in shade and too early for motor bikes in general and it was a pleasant slow climb up to Mt. White. We had morning tea at the start of the second climb from Berowra Waters and the climb itself was a bit harder, being steeper and hotter in the sunshine. A lot of people had stopped at Pie In The Sky, but I kept on going. I ended up at Berowra oval at about 10:30. I had a sausage sandwich, said goodbye to Ed and Glen, and packed all my gear onto the bike. Then I rode home which took an extra 3:30, getting home at about 2pm (including a stop for iced coffee at Crows Nest).
